Barra Learning Centre

Get Ready for a September 2011 Start!

Post school educational opportunities in Barra have increased significantly since the opening of the new purpose built Lews Castle College-Barra Centre in 2005. The facilities, situated near Castlebay School and the Barra Children’s Centre, offer a well equipped and supportive environment for adults continuing or returning to study.
Courses available through the centre fall into three main categories: Open Learning; remotely delivered courses; and locally delivered courses.

Open Learning & Remotely delivered courses

These courses are delivered using video conference, paper and web-based materials from Lews Castle College and other UHI partners. Students can attend courses on a part time or full time basis at the Barra Centre.

Locally delivered courses

These courses are offered subject to demand and on local tutor availablity.  Anyone wishing to attend any of the local courses should contact the Learning Centre to book a place. In setting the timetable for the courses an effort is made to accommodate individual requirements.
