Looking for synonyms, antonyms, acronyms, a Croatian, Japanese, or Gaelic dictionary, or stuck for the meaning of an English word? This site contains a wealth of information about the languages - extinct, endangered and living - of the world.

A link to major subject gateways, maintained by Heriot-Watt University, this site makes sense of the chaos of the web by giving access to high quality information in specific subject areas, from biology to philosophy to environment and development.

Government sites:

UK Government
This very comprehensive site carries a wealth of information on government policies and public services generally. Book for your driving test, renew your passport, buy a TV licence, or find information on a diverse range of topics from having a baby, housing, rights at work etc. Links to every local authority and over 1,000 government and public service web sites. Go to links to specific departments for full text publications.

Official publications
A source of official information, including full texts of Acts of Parliament, statutory instruments, back to 1988, and Command Papers from 2001.

Scottish Government
This provides full text access to publications since 1997. Good range of links to other sites.
