APOSTROPHE


  APOSTROPHE  
 
  • The apostrophe is dropped in expressions with
    gu, gum, gun, gur, ga, gad, gam, gan, gar
    e.g.
    gan togail, gum faca, gur e

  • The apostrophe is retained after the past tense marker dh’
    e.g. dh’òl, dh’fhalbh (note: no space after apostrophe)

  • If the verb 'is' is not written in full, apostrophe is retained
    ’s math ’s dòcha (note: space after s)
    mo and do also retain apostrophe and the space
    e.g.
    m’ athair; d’ fhidheal
