This is a highly practical course designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to design and develop multimedia systems.

Candidates would normally be expected to have attained one of the following:

  • A relevant programme of SQA National Units at Access Level 3.
  • 3 Standard Grades at Foundation Level or above.
  • Equivalent qualifications and/or experience.

Description

This is a highly practical course designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to design and develop multimedia systems.  In addition the course provides a variety of core skills and the opportunity to study for the following qualifications:


- The Computing Studies Course at Intermediate 1
- PC Passport Qualification at Intermediate Level

In gaining this experience you will have the opportunity to learn industry standard software packages in well-equipped computer laboratories.

The course consists of 20 credits:

4 that make up the Computing Studies Course at Intermediate 1.
3 from the Computing and Information Systems Courses at Intermediate 2.
4 that make up the PC Passport Qualification at Intermediate Level.
3.5 Keyboarding and Word Processing units.
4 Core Skills units and 1.5 from Personal Development Planning units.

ASSESSMENT
The units are assessed throughout the course on a continuous basis mostly by practical tests and multiple choice questions, and the Computer Studies Course has one external assessment.

Progression

Candidates who complete the Multimedia Computing Course might progress to:
An HNC course in Computing, Business Studies or Administration and Information Technology.
The Advanced European Computer Driving Licence.
Employment.
