Description

This course aims to give you an understanding of historical and contemporary Gaelic society as well as a very high standard of fluency in the language. You will gain a knowledge of Gaelic literature, the position of other minority languages, Gaelic culture and Irish Gaelic. Along with the BA Gaelic and North Atlantic Studies, this is the first degree course to be taught entirely through the medium of Gaelic. At level 1 the emphasis is on language skills, with an intensive course for learners and a separate course to expand the skills of native speakers. At level 2 you will be introduced to the methods and philosophy relevant to your chosen field of study. At level 3, you will specialise in Gaelic Language and Culture and will work on a related project. By the end of the course you should be a confident Gaelic speaker, able to set the evolution of Gaelic language and society into an international context.

This degree offers students the opportunity to gain fluency in Gaelic and apply that fluency to the further study of Gaelic language, literature and culture.  Additional subjects include philosophy and Gaeilge.
