Description

The HNC Early Education and Child Care is an academic qualification with 12 ScotCAT credits at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Level 7.  It is broadly equivalent to SVQ Early Years Care and Education Level 3.

The HNC is one of the required qualifications for Registered Early Years Practitioners.  It is also very relevant to applicants who would like to do further study in Child Care and Education, e.g., BEd (Primary) or BA Child and Youth Studies.  It includes placement in an early years setting.  Experience has shown that this kind of placement can be very useful for such students, as universities now require some evidence of practical experience.

This course provides students with a professional qualification which enables them to be employed as nursery nurses and includes a significant practical classroom placement.  It also provides valuable experience and underpinning knowledge for people considering a career in teaching.
