PDA in Health and Social Care Supervision

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) requires supervisors in adult care settings to have specific qualifications to meet registration requirements. As an alternative to undertaking a full SVQ level 4 award, staff with SVQ level 3 in Care or equivalent can undertake supervisory or management qualifications at SCQF level 7 or above with a minimum of 15 credits. This SQA programme is designed to meet these requirements.

Level

SCQF level 7

Entry Requirements

Candidates need to demonstrate their potential to meet the academic demands of the award. Ideally they should be qualified at SVQ3 level or above. Candidates need to have had good experience in the care sector. Ideally candidates should already be working in a supervisory position, but consideration will be given to candidates aspiring to this. Students need to have access to a computer with the ability to develop skills in accessing website material, emailing and word processing of assignments.

Duration and Mode

The 2 credits of the programme are achievable within 4 months.

Description

Students study the 2 units of the new PDA Health and Social Care Supervision Award. This gives students 16 credits at SCQF level 7. The 2 units studied are:

  • Health and Social Care: Supervise People
  • Health and Social Care: Supervise the Protection of People

The course will be delivered using open learning materials.  Students communicate with the unit tutor by email and telephone.  Students study the unit materials when convenient for them.  To complement the self study open learning materials, students will be supported by their local college student adviser with optional classes offered to promote discussion and understanding of issues raised in the units as well as clarifying assessments.

Assessments
Written assignments will be used to assess understanding of the content of the 2 units. Students will have two attempts at an assessment. Students are required to submit assignments word processed unless otherwise agreed.
