This course is a pre requisite for entry to the Merchant Navy. A certificate is issued by the college on the successful completion of the course on behalf of the Maritime Coastal Agency.

Description

The course is designed to give all personnel going to sea the essential basic knowledge of survival equipment, survival principles and techniques that can be applied to maximise their chances of survival in the event of a marine casualty. Training consists of theoretical classroom work followed by practical exercises in the training pool. Assessment is by direct observation, oral questioning and simulated drills.

  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Actions prior to abandonment
  • Helicopter rescue
  • Righting an upturned liferaft
  • Use of Pyrotechnics
  • Visual and secondary actions in the liferaft
  • Survival factors
  • In water survival techniques
