£200 ILA Account

ILA Scotland is a simple way to get up to £200 a year towards the cost of learning something new. It's a Scottish Government scheme for people with an income of £22,000 a year or less or who are on benefits. The money is not a loan - so you don't have to pay any of it back.

Learning something new could help you earn more money, get a better job or do something you really enjoy.  If you want to get back into learning then ILA Scotland can help you with up to £200 towards a wide range of courses

There’s plenty to choose from – so whether you want to learn something completely new, or brush up your skills to help you get on at work – why not get in touch with ILA and they’ll help find the right course for you.

As the money is not a loan, you don’t have to worry about paying it back.

Whatever course you decide on, make sure that you have applied for your learner account and that you have received your account card and account number before booking a course as you cannot use your funds to pay for a course that you have already booked.

How to Apply

All learners wishing to apply can contact the free ILA Scotland Helpline 0808100 1090 to obtain an application form and enquire about eligible ILA Scotland courses. Please note that it is the learners responsibility to make contact with ILA Scotland to establish eligibility. There is also the opportunity to access extensive learner information on the ILA Scotland website.

Applying for the £200 ILA Scotland offer could not be simpler.  Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Contact the ILA Scotland Helpline free on 0808 100 1090 to request an application pack.
  2. ILA Scotland will then send you an application pack with guidance notes and this should be returned in the post – paid envelope.
  3. A welcome pack will then be sent out, which you can expect to receive 2 weeks after the application is received by ILA Scotland.
  4. The next stage is for you to select a course(s) and check with ILA Scotland that it is eligible.
  5. The chosen course should then be booked directly with Lews Castle College on 01851 770 000 and tell us that you want to use you’re ILA Scotland funds to pay for it.
  6. At this time you should provide the unique learning account number which will be in the welcome pack to us, to enable us to book the course on the ILA Scotland system.
  7. You will then receive a letter to confirm that you have been booked on the course.
  8. With the letter will be a learning token which you should use to pay for the learning you have booked.  You must sign and date the token and give it to the college when starting the course if the funds are to pay for that course.
  9. The token is then submitted to ILA Scotland to claim payment.  After this you will receive a statement from ILA Scotland showing that funds have been taken from your account to pay for the course.  If you do not receive a statement, check with the provider to make sure the token was sent to ILA Scotland.

NOTE: The total amount you will have to contribute will depend on the overall cost of the course and the amount of available funds left in you’re account. A learner with a £500 account can access any course that is approved.
