An investigation into localised energy harvesting to increase primary production

Supervisors:

Driector of Studies: Dr Edward Graham (UHI)

Second Supervisor: Dr Neil Finlayson (UHI)

Third Supervisor: Dr David Harper (University of Leicester)

Rationale for the research

There is potentially an abundance of reusable wind and tidal energy in the Outer Hebrides, sunshine perhaps less so. The research is examining whether the abundant sources can be efficiently utilised locally to supplement solar radiation. This could produce an increase in primary production by enhancing or extending growing seasons. This work may have implications for Island food production and food miles. Additionally, it will address questions of where we produce power and what we do with it.
