apprenticeship

The University of the Highlands and Islands is one of the largest providers of apprenticeship training in Scotland.

Apprenticeships help individuals from every walk of life the opportunity to build the experience and skills that employers want to see. We work with Skills Development Scotland who administer funding for apprenticeship training and help employers with training costs if the apprentice is aged 16-24. A contribution to training may also be available if the apprentice is 25+ depending on the type of industry.

Here at Lews Castle College we offer a range of Modern Apprenticeships. A Modern Apprenticeship is a job which lets people earn a wage and gain an industry-recognised qualification. For employers, modern apprenticeships help develop their workforce by training new staff, and upskilling existing employees. Employers who’ve taken on MAs are positive about the experience: 96% say those who’ve undertook a Modern Apprenticeship are more able to do their job. They also praised MAs for improving productivity, staff morale, and service and product quality. Modern Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to enhance Scotland’s work-based learning system and reduce youth unemployment.
