This course is an introduction to developing Pattern Cutting skills for basic shoulder suspended garments.  Over the course of ten weeks, you will create your own womenswear bodice block and be taught basic manipulation techniques.

You will also have the opportunity to create a calico Toile of a shoulder suspended garment using industrial sewing techniques and machines in the LCC UHI Fashion Studio.

All materials are included in the cost of this course and all patterns are drafted to an industry standard.

This course is ideal for anyone interested in learning how to develop their existing skill base in Art, Design & Fashion.

Sustaining Craft Business Practice

During this new ten-week course, developed in collaboration with Applied Arts Scotland you will be introduced to new skills that will help either establish a business using your craft practice or develop your existing craft business.

This course is ideal for anyone who has always wanted to earn a living from their craft whether it be Weaving, Dry – stone walling, Pattern Cutting, Tailoring, Millinery, Corsetry, Glass – Making, Pottery, or Wood Carving; This course will provide you with a set of foundation skills that will help you create a professional, proactive and inspirational business.

  • Start Date: 31st January 2022
  • Full time or Part time: Part-time
  • During: 10 weeks (Approx. 9hrs per week)
  • Study Method: Fully On-Line and Self–Directed with Live Networking and Industry led Discussions
  • Cost:Free (Funded by SDS NTTF)
  • Assessment may take the form of presentations, reports, and discussions and will be submitted digitally for assessment within the ten-week period.
  • Qualification: SQA Professional Development Award SQCF Level 7

  • Covering email confirming whether you are an established Craft Business and wanting to develop your business further or seeking to establish a new Craft Business.

  • 3 Images of your work and/or links to social media/websites
  • Evidence for eligibility can be demonstrated through links to social media accounts/references on your CV and if you are seeking to establish a business within your personal statement.

DEADLINE: 10th January 2022

The selection process will be taking place between the 12th - 14th of January and applicants will& be notified if they have been successful and invited to apply formally by the 15th January 2022.

Entry to the qualificationParticipants need to be over 25yrs old

Evidence of experience or qualifications in making, designing, producing, or selling Craft Products


A National Certificate or equivalent qualification at SCQF level 5 or 6


Two Highers at level C or above.

If English is not your first language, English for Speakers of Other Languages at an appropriate level.

Alternative Evidence to demonstrate suitability may be considered at the discretion of the centre.
