SpeakGaelic is a new, wide-ranging, multi-faceted learning opportunity developed in partnership by MGAlba, BBC Alba & Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. LCC UHI will be delivering Level A1 (beginner level) in a 13-week block on a twice-weekly basis from January.

Ulpan is a highly interactive method of language learning in which learners are introduced to language structures via language drills backed up by consolidatory games and exercises.  Ulpan is delivered in a block of 24 lessons.  This course is SQA accredited.

This UHI module endeavours to develop a critical awareness of the practical steps needed for successful language revitalisation, assessing theoretical explanations of the processes of language decline and revitalisation in different minoritised language communities.  We will look at revitalisation efforts and strategies from other countries and compare these to what is being done in regards to the revitalisation of Gaelic – are there examples which could be applied to Gaelic-speaking communities?
