What is special about this course?
This course will explore the synergy between Art and Archaeology, through a combination of lectures, discussion, and field work. Working with UHI Lecturers you will explore the subject matter with expert tutelage, producing creative work with a grounding in archaeological enquiry. Aimed at creative practitioners or those with an interest in both subject areas.
Some knowledge of contemporary art is preferable
Intro to the course and meet the group
Introduction to Archaeology and methods for recording.
Explore the synergy and intersections.
Pre-recorded site visit, Dr Emily Gal and Rosie Blake in conversation.
Presentation on specific sites related to themes of climate/environment/weather.
Phenomenology in Art and Archaeological practices.
Presenting and sharing work in a group review: a group feedback session with specific questions to lead discussion.
Paper or sketchbook, pencils, notebook, camera or camera phone, other art materials of your chosen medium, a space to make work (kitchen table, studio, bedroom, shed, garden, etc.)
How will I study my course?
- Short course
This course offers an introduction to study in the area of Art and Archaeology. On completion of the course you will be able to carry out basic archaeological recording techniques including stratigraphy, scaled drawings and photograph, and you will be able to apply these methods to a process of art making. You will gain insight into the theories and techniques which intersect the two subject areas.
How long will my course last?
A total of 10 hours over 3 Saturdays, 6th, 13th and 20th March

Most full-time students will have their fees paid.
Students on part-time courses may also be eligible to have their course fees waived.
