Speak Gaelic

SpeakGaelic is a new, wide-ranging, multi-faceted learning opportunity and LCC UHI will be delivering Level A1 (beginner level) in a 13-week block on a twice-weekly basis this autumn.  Each class will be of 1.5 hours duration and will be delivered face-to-face on Monday and Thursday 9.30am – 11am.  Commencing week beginning 1st November.

SpeakGaelic classes will also be offered on a weekly basis in the following communities:

Breasclete
Benbecula

Gaelic for Work Purposes

This 12 week accredited SQA course is suitable for those who have not previously studied Gaelic. Students will be given the opportunity to develop basic skills needed to communicate in everyday situations, and in vocational and professional contexts.

This course can also be delivered for businesess looking to provide training for staff. It can be delivered as a tutor-led taught course, or students may work independently through the course at their own pace.

Gaelic for Fluent Speakers

Grammar is unavoidable –  we use it every time we speak or write, even in the simplest of sentences.  If the thought of writing an email, or a report in Gaelic fills you with uncertainty – then fear not, this course will help you understand the rules of Gaelic spelling and syntax.   This course is aimed at fluent speakers, or an advanced learners who wish to improve their Gaelic literacy skills.

Gaelic Conversation – Intermediate

This 10 week course is structured for those who wish to develop their speaking and listening skills.  Classes will explore conversations on current news articles, Gaelic cultural events and vocabulary for day to day activities

Delivered online on Monday 11.15 – 12.15 and Wednesday 9am – 10am.

Ulpan Gaelic Language Classes content gaelic-awareness

Ulpan Gaelic Language Classes

Ulpan is a highly interactive method of language learning in which learners are introduced to language structures via language drills backed-up by consolidatory games and exercises. 

Ulpan is delivered online in a block of 24 lessons on Monday and Thursday 9.30am – 11am.  This course is SQA accredited.

Supernatural Folklore of the Gaidhealtachd

Have you ever wanted to know more about the other world, a supernatural realm that was very real to our ancestors? Come with us on this journey through the veil that separates us from a dimension populated by ghosts, witches, fairies and other shadowy beings. Together, we will explore the beliefs, customs and superstitions associated with the supernatural world of the Gaels. This course is delivered in English.
