Working with a model, this intensive figure drawing course will explore a range of approaches to drawing – from quick, gestural drawing to more sustained poses, while experimenting with a varied range of media. Beginner and more experienced students are welcome to join. This course is part of a programme of creative short courses and workshops offering a varied range of opportunities in the visual arts. 

The course will be delivered face to face in the college studios at the Lochmaddy campus.  Over the course of the 6-week programme, students will work in the studio with a model to develop their observational and media handling skills.  A range of warm up exercises, quick gestural drawings and more sustained drawings will allow for varied approaches and room for individual response. Experimentation with media and mark making will build on confidence and skills and support your broader drawing practice.

Cyanotype is a fun and versatile form of ‘alternative’ photography. This course will introduce you to the fascinating process and set you up to continue to use it independently. This course is part of a programme of creative short courses and workshops offering a varied range of opportunities in the visual arts.

Student Painting

Painting and Colour will introduce approaches in painting alongside colour exploration. Using acrylic paints, which allow for quick drying time and a versatile approach, the workshop will lead you through a series of exercises and experiments progressing onto observed painting from a still-life arrangement with plenty room for self-expression. Beginner and more experienced students are welcome to join. This course is part of a programme of creative short courses and workshops offering a varied range of opportunities in the visual arts. 

Day 1 Introduction.  Exercises relating to colour mixing through practical application and experimentation. Exploration of mark making and painterly qualities.  Introduction to artists’ work.  

Day 2:  Observed painting studies developing and expanding colour and painting knowledge. Working from still life and studio environment setting.
