Gordon Murray

Teacher of Mathematics, ESOL (English for Speakers of other languages), Personal Finance, Numeracy.

Gordon currently works part-time at LCC UHI.  He teaches National 5 maths (Twilight) class - this starts at 5 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays - and takes students through the course from September to prepare for the exam in May.

Gordon enjoyed mathematics in university and previously worked in the finance sector in Edinburgh for a decade.  He decided to have a complete career change and sat a TESOL (Teaching English for Speakers of other languages) qualification.  Gordon then went out to Malaysia to teach in Kuala Lumpur and enjoys teaching subjects that empower his students.

Another subject Gordon teaches is Personal Finance, which helps students organise their money through personal budgeting and comparing banking products.  This course is hugely important as it not only helps numeracy skills but equips students with the skills to look at their own financial situation with a view to improving it as well as assessing banking products to best suit their own circumstances.

When Gordon returned from Malaysia, he produced the first-ever Gaelic karaoke DVDm entitled "Seinn thu Fhein.”  Gordon also enjoys playing the bagpipes, fiddle, mandolin and guitar.  During his spare time, he is a local councilor at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar where he leads the SNP Group.  He also works as a group training officer for the Western Isles Construction Training Group.
