Hereward Proops


Teacher in National 5 and Higher Psychology at FE level

Hereward has a BA (hons) in English and Related Literature and an MSc in Counselling Psychology.  Originally from Birmingham, he moved to Lewis in 2009.  He has a background in teaching pupils with additional support needs and is an accredited psychotherapist/counsellor. 

Hereward joined UHI in 2016 and teaches National 5 and Higher Psychology at FE level. He is also module leader for Additional Support Needs in Scottish Schools, and Child and Adolescent Mental Health at HE level. In addition to this, Hereward delivers short courses in Managing Stress and Introduction to Counselling Skills. 

Hereward splits his time between a private therapy practice and lecturing at the college.  He is an enthusiastic and energetic educator and has been nominated for "Most Inspiring Lecturer" in the HISA awards several times.  He is a fellow of the HEA and has research interests in education, personal development, and psychotherapy.

When Hereward gets some spare time, he dabbles in creative writing and drives his family up the wall by playing the banjolele.
